A Panoramic Hike Through Nature’s Paradise
Are you looking for a fun and easy climbing adventure in Sri Lanka? Then Little Adam’s Peak is definitely worth checking out. This stunning ridge is made up of three green peaks that tower above the valley below. While it may be smaller than its bigger sibling Adam’s Peak, that doesn’t mean it’s any less impressive.
From Ella Town to the foot of the mountain, it is around a 45-minute walk. From the base to the top, it takes approximately 15 minutes (or 30 minutes to reach the furthest of the 3 peaks). The climb is relatively easy, but you’ll want to wear good sneakers to ensure a steady grip on the rocks. There are three tops to the climb, with the last one being a bit more challenging to reach, but the incredible views of the valley and mountains in front of you make it all worth it.
One of the best things about Little Adam’s Peak is its location. The main entrance to the climb is only a 15-minute walk from Ella village, making it easy to access and a great way to spend an afternoon. And once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views that will take your breath away. You can see the stunning views of Ella Gap and beyond, waterfalls including the upper segment of “Ravana falls,” tea plantations, and long grass fields.
After your beautiful hike, look out for 98 Acres Resort on your return journey. This is a lovely spot to enjoy a coffee or a locally made tea with a view. Also, you can stop at 98 acres for a massage, at the Flying Rawana Mega Zipline or the Pool Club, plus several cafes and newsagents along the road within Ella.
This is an easier hike that is suitable for children and seniors. The views are already stunning on the way up, including the tea plantations you walk through. The impression is that it is a longer walk than what it was. From the gate, up to the top, it took us 20 minutes, out of which only about 5 was a strenuous climb.
To get there, go to 98 Acres and walk through the hotel, or ask the locals around about how to get there, everyone is super helpful. This was a nice walk for sunrise – but a bit tough at times in the dark, especially if you’re rushing. We initially tried to watch sunrise from the shrine at the peak – but then belatedly realized the best views are actually down and to the right, and the point on Google Maps which labels Little Adams Peak. It’s a bit of a tough walk on a narrow path between two peak points, so don’t do it rushing.
Little Adam’s Peak is a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka, and it’s one of the best things to do in Ella. This mother nature’s gorgeous gift peak lets thrill-seekers scour stunning sceneries that are made up of densely covered jungle and cliff drops combining with calmful view of the rising and setting of the sun. Overall, I highly recommend Little Adam’s Peak for anyone looking for a fun and rewarding outdoor adventure in Sri Lanka. The climb is easy enough for most people to enjoy, but still challenging enough to make you feel accomplished when you reach the top. And the views are simply stunning, making it an unforgettable experience.
Story with Ravana and the Little Adam’s Aeak
According to legend, the peak is connected to the story of Ravana, the demon king of Sri Lanka in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. Ravana was said to be a powerful and ambitious king who had ten heads and the ability to fly.
There are several beliefs and stories associated with Little Adam’s Peak and its connection to Ravana. One such belief is that Ravana, the mythical demon king of Lanka, used to worship the sun at the peak.
According to the legend, Ravana was a devout follower of Lord Shiva, and he sought to obtain the ultimate power to defeat his enemies. He performed intense penance and rituals to please Lord Shiva, and in return, he was granted immense powers and strength. Ravana, being a powerful and arrogant king, began to misuse his powers and became a tyrant ruler.
One day, Ravana’s ego and pride were shattered when he was defeated by Lord Rama, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. After his defeat, Ravana realized his mistake and turned towards spirituality to seek redemption for his sins. It is believed that he climbed Little Adam’s Peak to worship the sun, which is considered a symbol of ultimate power and divinity. The peak is also believed to have a direct connection with the sun, and Ravana’s worship is said to have purified his soul and brought him closer to enlightenment.
Although there is no concrete evidence to support this legend, many people believe that Ravana’s presence can still be felt in the area. Visitors to Little Adam’s Peak often report feeling a sense of mysticism and otherworldliness, as if they are walking in the footsteps of a powerful and ancient king.
The belief in Ravana’s worship at Little Adam’s Peak is still prevalent among the locals and attracts many tourists who come to see the stunning views and learn about the legends associated with the peak.
